This letter serves as a high recommendation for Chheduk Man Lama. Not only was he the Sirdar (lead Sherpa) for our American team’s successful 1994 climb of Dhaulagiri, but has also supported me as Sirdar for Nepal treks for over 12 years. Some of the particulars are described below:

Most recently, Chheduk Man was our Sirdar for approach to Dhaulagiri base camp and managed our base camp while we climbed the mountain. Dhaulagiri is the 6th highest mountain in the world. As always, Chheduk Man did an excellent job. He was responsible for transporting our 3,000 pounds of gear from Kathmandu to base camp and back again. He also dealt effectively with the complex issues that arose in hiring porters over the holidays as often can happen in Nepal. Everything in base camp ran smoothly and efficiently.

I have worked with Chheduk Man since 1983. He has been my Sirdar for 5 full service treks ranging from 19 to 25 days in addition to the climb described above. He has many contacts and is able to build an excellent crew.

Fall 1988 Jugal Himal
Fall 1989 Rolwallling
Spring 1990 Langtang
Fall 1991 Makalu Base Camp
Fall 1994 South of Dhaulagiri

Additionally, I have referred many people to Chheduk Man. They have all returned very pleased with the service he has provided them. Chheduk Man is not only an efficient and resourceful leader, but is a warm and special individual who is cared about by and has been befriended by most of the people on the treks over the years.
