The eye-catching mountain Ama Dablam (6812m) is in the Khumbu region, Nepal. It is a mountaineer’s favorite because the climbing route is technically challenging. Mountaineers often go on an Ama Dablam expedition to prepare for other peaks with 8000m expedition plans. It is also the trekkers’ favorite mountain to look at when they are trekking. It dominates the Khumbu Valley, rising from the eastern sky.

The shape of the Ama Dablam is unique in the Himalayas. Ama means mother, and Dablam means the sacred ornament box used by Sherpa women in the Khumbu region. Some people say Ama Dablam means “mother’s necklace” as well. The hanging glacier from the southwest face represents Dablam.

The Ama Dablam has several climbing routes that have already been explored. However, the southwest ridge climbing route is more popular because it is slightly more accessible and has more beautiful views than other routes. The mountain guide will fix lines and set up expedition tents at Camps I, II, and III on the southwest ridge. From Base Camp to Camp I is only a moderate type uphill walk. Camps I to II are technical climbs on the narrow edge of ridges of the granite rock formation. Continue climbing through rock, snow, and icy mushroom ridges from Camp II to III. From Camp III, we climb to the pyramidal shape of the summit of Ama Dablam. Views from the top of Ama Dablam are exceptional in life. Then, we retraced the steps to Base Camp using the same route. Be careful when descending because other climbers can drop debris or rocks while returning to the Base Camp.

The walk begins from Lukla and goes to Everest Base Camp for an acclimatization hike. It then goes to Ama Dablam Base Camp. We stay at the lodge en route to get food and accommodation up to ADBC and then return to Lukla after completing the Ama Dablam expedition.
